He moved to Toronto with his wife and two sons, joining the Gynecological Oncology Fellowship at the University of Toronto, in July 2003. His research year of the Fellowship involved the study of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Mismatch Repair Genes and Ovarian Cancer Risk. On completion of his 3 years in Toronto (July 2006) he returned to Ireland, where he took a further year of Fellowship training, to comply with the RCOG (London) requirements of completing at least one year of subspecialty training within the UK. Ian has several publications and has presented at national and international meetings during his training.

Ian has always believed in "work hard-play hard". He continues to "work hard-play hard" in Ireland - enjoying skiing the French Alps and is currently completing his Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster Certificate.

Ian Harley is now on Staff as a Gynaecological Oncologist in the Belfast City Hospital / Northern Ireland Regional Cancer Centre. His current interests include Minimally Invasive Surgery in Gyne. Oncology, Translational Research in Ovarian Cancer and Postgraduate Medical Education.
